CLEANING YOUR SPROUTERS

Cleaning your sprouter FRESH SPROUTS

SPROUTS LOVE CLEANLINESS

Sprouts love to grow in a clean environment. This goes for both in- and outside the sprouter. However it is easily obtained when you keep a normal good hygiene in your kitchen with a clean kitchen table for the sprouter, and keep the sink, towels and your hands clean when you handle the sprouts. That way you will not transfer bacteria from your everyday business to the sprouter.

CLEAN THE SPROUTER AFTER EVERY USE

It is tempting to give the sprouter a quick wash and then start off a new round of sprouts. But your sprouts will not thrive in a dirty sprouter. Plant material from the precious sprouts should be cleaned completly. You can hold the sprouter against the light to make sure it is really clean. Only then is it ready to house the new round of your little, sensitive plant friends.

BRUSHES AND SPONGES

The brush or sponge you use to clean your sprouter should be completely clean. This is important because if your use a sponge/brush you normally use for other things, there may be tranferred bacteria to your sprouter. These bacteria will grow in the warm, moist environment in the sprouter which will at best make your sprouts go bad. I therefore recommend that you keep a sponge you can easily recognize and use only for cleaning your sprouter.

SOAP FOR THE SPROUTER

You do not need special types of soap to clean sprouters made of plast, metal og glass. I do however recommend fragrance free dish washing soap with a green environment icon. The less chemicals you can use for your sprouter the better. It does need to be washed well, but there is no need for harsh chemicals. Some chemicals may actually sit in the sprouter and be diluted when the sprouter gets wet with the sprouts in it. Something to think of, right?

TOWELS AND VIPES

Now that you have cleaned the sprouter all nice, you will need it to dry if you do not start up a new round of seeds right away. To keep the good hygiene dry it with a clean towel or place it on a freshly washed table vipe to air dry.  When you are ready with a new glass of soakes seeds, your sprouter is ready to host a new batch of tiny plants.

EXTRA CLEANING OF YOUR SPROUTER

There are different ways you can clean your sprouter extra well. I will not mention the ways as the options depend in the materials the sprouter is made from. In stead I recommend, that you contact the manufactorer of your sprouter to ask for extra cleaning tips. Maybe they even explain it in their manuals or on their website. I do so for my own products.
