Organic Mustard seeds for Microgreens

Organic Mustard seeds is a beautiful Microgreen. They are violet and green in the leaves and their stems are light green. You can grow them in your own kitchen all year.
The seeds have the Latin name of Sinapis alba. This Mustard variety is also called Salad mustard or white mustard.

Vitamins and minerals in Mustard

Organic Mustard Microgreens are quite nutrient rich. They contain the vitamins: B1, B3, B6, E and the minerals Iron, Calcium, Magnesium, Manganese, Phosphorus, Zinc, Selenium.

Colorful leaves on Mustard

When your Mustard plants are mature, their leaves are deep violet and green. These beautiful colours stay with the plants as they grow into the bigger microgreens. If you experience the leaves are very pale, then it could be either lack of light or fertilizer.

Taste and use in food

Your home-grown Mustard microgreens have a nicely round taste of white mustard. The taste is milder in the bigger microgreens than in the small sprouts. This is nice as you can harvest the plants according to your need for the dish. I personally enjoy my Mustard plants in any size as spicy topping in salad, sandwiches, wraps and dips.

Cultivation time of organic Mustard seeds for Microgreens

You can grow your organic Mustard seeds into either sprouts or microgreens. If your kitchen temperature is 18-23 ° C / 64-73 ° F, your Mustard sprouts should be ready for harvest after 6 days of cultivation. At the same temperature, they should have grown to mature microgreens after a total of 12 days.

Cultivation device for Mustard microgreens

As Mustard is a gelling – mucilaginous – seed, they need to grow on a special substrate. Because of this a Hemp mat or Organic Cotton Woll is needed under the seeds. The substrate is needed to grow both Mustard sprouts and microgreens. See Hemp mat.

Microgreens need light and fertilizer

If you grow Mustard Microgreens, then the plants need artificial light and extra fertilizer from day 7 of the cultivation. Under MICRO KIT you can find descriptions about the right amount of light and fertilizer for Microgreens when you use each product. Visit Micro Kit.
