Cress is especially strong in their taste, the younger the plant.

Organic Cress Seeds for Microgreens

Organic Cress seeds for Microgreens is an easy plant, that you will have much joy of growing yourself as it is very easy. The seeds have the Latin name of Lepidium sativum. Cress is also called Pepperwort or Tower mustard.

Vitamins and minerals in Cress

Organic Cress Microgreens are very nutrient rich. They contain the vitamins: B1, B3, B6, E and the minerals Iron, Calcium, Magnesium, Manganese, Phosphorus, Zinc, Selenium.

Moisture for Cress

Even though Cress seeds form gel they still must not dry out during your cultivation. If they dry out, the seeds and/or plants will wither. So keep the cotton woll or hemp mat constantly moist durling the whole cultivation. Fortunately this is very easy as you can simply give the fabric or grow mat under the seeds a little water morning and evening. Then your plants will grow well for you.

Taste and use in food

Your home-grown Cress microgreens have a nicely round taste of cress. The taste is milder in the bigger microgreens than in the small sprouts. This is nice if you find the traditional cress taste a little too much. I personally enjoy cress in any size as spicy topping in salad, sandwiches, wraps and dips.

Cultivation time of organic Cress seeds for Microgreens

You can grow your organic Cress seeds into either sprouts or microgreens. If your kitchen temperature is 18-23 ° C / 64-73 ° F, your Cress sprouts should be ready for harvest after 6 days of cultivation. At the same temperature, they should have grown to mature microgreens after a total of 12 days.

Cultivation device for Cress microgreens

As Cress is a gelling – mucilaginous – seed, they need to grow on a special substrate. Because of this a Hemp mat or Organic Cotton Woll is needed under the seeds. The substrate is needed to grow both Cress sprouts and microgreens. See Hemp mat.

Microgreens need light and fertilizer

If you grow Cress Microgreens, then the plants need artificial light and extra fertilizer from day 7 of the cultivation. Under MICRO KIT you can find descriptions about the right amount of light and fertilizer for Microgreens when you use each product. Visit Micro Kit.
