Organic Endive Seeds for Sprouts and Microgreens
Organic Endive seeds are easy to grow into Microgreens in your kitchen all year. They have the Latin name Cichorium endivia. Endive is also called: Chicory or Escarole.
Vitamins and minerals in Endive
Endive Microgreens is the most nutritious sprout and microgreen you can find. They contain the vitamins: A, B1, B3, B5, B6, B9, C, E, K and the mineralers Potassium, Iron, Calcium, Copper, Zinc, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Selenium, Sodium.
Endive form small plants
Endive may seem to be too small to bother as it is the smallest sprout and microgreen in stock. But what it lacks in size it makes up for in taste and charm. Endive is even more tasty and has the same lovely bitterness that you may know from the fully grown salad.
You can eat the whole plant, but the chewy seed husks are not very tasty and should be rinsed of before you eat the plants.
Taste and use in food
Endive is a small but very nutritious and tasty plant. It is bitter like the fully grown salad. If you wish it to be less bitter, you can place the plants in a lighter spot. Just not in direct sun as that is too hot for the fragile plants. A solution is to place the plants under a grow light bulb for up to 16 hours the last two days before harvest.
I find that the bitterness of these salad plants go especially well with dips or as flavor enhancer in sandwiches, green salads and wraps.
Cultivation time of organic Endive seeds for Microgreens
You can grow your organic Endive seeds into either sprouts or microgreens. If your kitchen temperature is 18-23 ° C / 64-73 ° F, your Endive sprouts should be ready for harvest after 6-7 days of cultivation. At the same temperature, they should have grown to mature microgreens after a total of 12-14 days.
Cultivation device for Endive microgreens
Endive sprouts can grow in any sprouting device. The bigger Endive Microgreens will, however, give the best result in a SproutPearl sprouter or a Hemp mat. This is because these two methods let the plants get plenty of room to grow and ventilation around the plant tops.
